🌿 Meaning & Symbolism
Why the Alms Bowl?
Each morning, the historical Buddha walked the villages near his monastery with nothing but his robe and his bowl, receiving whatever food was offered and eating it without preference or complaint. The alms bowl in this statue's hands is not a prop — it is the entire practice in miniature: renunciation of ownership, radical humility, and a trust that what is needed will be given.
It is also a statement about interdependence. The monk cannot eat without the villager's offering; the villager cannot make merit without the monk's presence. Neither side is complete alone.
For a home or a desk, this is the piece that says: I don't need to hold everything myself to be at peace.
🌿 The Wood & The Craft
Why African Padauk?
African Padauk is one of Africa's hardest and most dimensionally stable hardwoods — resistant to warping and cracking, and built to hold its form across decades rather than years. Straight out of the block, it carries a warm orange-red tone that deepens toward a richer reddish-brown as it's exposed to light over time. This piece is left in its natural finish, so that color and grain do the work rather than a stain or lacquer.
Every cut is made by hand — chisel to wood, no CNC assistance — by family artisans continuing a wood-carving lineage in Thường Tín village, Hanoi. Because each statue is carved from a single block, the grain pattern, and any small texture in the robe's folds, will be unique to your piece. That is not an inconsistency to overlook. It is the proof a person, not a machine, made it.

FAQs
FAQs
✦ Entirely hand-carved, chisel to wood, with no CNC involved at any stage. That's why no two statues are identical — the grain, the folds of the robe, the exact set of the shoulders, all reflect the specific choices of the artisan who carved that piece.
❓ Why does the Buddha look different from other statues I've seen holding a bowl?
✦ Many mass-produced "Buddha with bowl" figures are resin or polystone castings, often symmetrical and glassy-smooth. This one is carved from a single solid block of Padauk, so the surface carries the very slight, natural texture of hand tool work, and the wood itself has weight and warmth resin can't replicate.
❓ Where should I place this statue?
✦ At or above seated eye level — a desk corner, a low shelf, or a home altar. Keep it elevated rather than on the floor, and out of direct sun or air-conditioning airflow, which can dry the wood over time.
❓ How do I care for it?
✦ Dust weekly with a soft, dry cloth. Every six months, a single drop of natural wood oil worked in lightly will keep the finish healthy. No liquid cleaners.
❓ Do you offer this in other sizes or woods?
✦ Yes — both sizes shown here are available, and this design can also be carved in cypress on request; message me before ordering to confirm availability.
