🌿 Meaning & Symbolism: What Does the Medicine Buddha Represent?
The Medicine Buddha, known as Bhaisajyaguru in Buddhist tradition, is revered as the Buddha of Healing and Compassion.
- His right hand extends downward in Varada Mudra, the gesture of giving and blessing, holding a branch of Myrobalan — the sacred healing herb associated with physical and spiritual well-being.
- His left hand rests in Dhyana Mudra, the gesture of meditation, holding a bowl filled with healing nectar.
Seated in the full lotus position, the Medicine Buddha embodies healing and recovery, inner peace and emotional balance, compassion and wisdom, protection from suffering, and mindfulness and spiritual growth.
"Healing begins the moment we create room for stillness."
🌿 Handmade by Vietnamese Master Artisans
Every statue is individually hand-carved in Thuong Tin, a traditional wood-carving village near Hanoi, Vietnam. Local artisan families have preserved these carving techniques for generations, transforming solid blocks of wood into meaningful works of art through patience, skill, and devotion.
Unlike mass-produced resin figures, this piece is 100% hand-carved with no CNC machining and no casting molds — each piece is unique. Every fold of the robe, lotus petal, and facial expression is shaped by hand.
🌲 Natural Green Cypress Wood
This statue is carved from solid Green Cypress, a prized Vietnamese wood known for its naturally calming fragrance, beautiful grain patterns, durability and longevity, and natural resistance to insects and decay.
The scent is warm, soft, and forest-like — often described as the aroma of aged cedar and fresh mountain air. Because each sculpture is carved from a single piece of natural wood, every statue displays its own unique grain pattern and color variation.
🏡 Placement Suggestions
The Medicine Buddha may be displayed on a home altar, meditation room, yoga space, living room shelf, office desk, or healing or wellness space.
For traditional placement, display the statue on a clean and elevated surface, and avoid placing it directly on the floor or in areas with excessive moisture.
🎁 A Meaningful Gift
This Medicine Buddha statue makes a thoughtful gift for meditation practitioners, Buddhists and spiritual seekers, housewarming celebrations, recovery and healing journeys, and Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, and special occasions.
