Some presences in a home are there simply to soften it. This hand-carved Kwan Yin (Guanyin) statue is solid Green Cypress, carved by family artisans in Vietnam, seated in the full lotus meditation posture.
🌿 Meaning & Symbolism
Kwan Yin, the bodhisattva of compassion, is said to hear the cries of the world — anyone suffering, anywhere, is heard by her. Seated in full lotus (Padmasana), her right hand is raised in a gesture of reassurance and the removal of fear, while her left hand holds the Amrita Kalash — the sacred vase of healing nectar and compassion.
Her lowered eyes suggest inward awareness while remaining present for the world; the soft smile reflects acceptance rather than distance.
For the modern home, she is the figure that says: strength doesn't have to be hard to be real.
🌿 The Wood & The Craft
Green Cypress is prized in Vietnamese carving for its light, honey-gold tone and its naturally calming, forest-like fragrance — a scent that comes from the wood's own oils rather than any applied treatment, and that softens rather than disappears with age.
Every statue is hand-carved from a single block by artisans continuing a wood-carving tradition passed through generations. The flowing robe folds and the delicate hand gestures are among the most difficult details to carve — small variations between pieces are the mark of that handwork.
🎁 Gifting
A considered gift for a meditation or yoga space, a new mother, or anyone navigating a difficult season who could use a gentler presence nearby — also a fitting housewarming gift for a first home altar.
