Known in Vietnamese as Đại Thế Chí Bồ Tát, he's one of eight guardians in the Benming Fo tradition, each paired with a Chinese zodiac sign. Paired with Guan Yin as the two chief attendants of Amitabha Buddha, he represents wisdom to her compassion — the moon to her sun.
