Not every space needs more energy in it — some need less. This hand-carved Serene Buddha, carved from solid Vietnamese cypress by artisan families in Thuong Tin village, Hanoi, is shaped around one idea: a face at total ease.
🌿 Meaning & Symbolism
Rather than depicting a specific scriptural moment, this figure is carved for expression: a softened brow, closed or half-lowered eyes, shoulders carrying no tension.
In Vietnamese folk belief, a Buddha carved with this kind of stillness is thought to bring a calmer, more settled energy into a home — not as a guaranteed effect, but as an intention set by the object you choose to live with.
For the modern world, this is the statue that says: ease isn't something you have to earn. Sometimes it's something you simply stop refusing.
🌿 The Wood & The Craft
Vietnamese cypress is a lighter, naturally fragrant wood, easier to shape into the soft, rounded facial features this figure calls for than a denser hardwood would allow. It's a traditional choice in Vietnamese religious carving for exactly this reason.
Hand-carved from a single block by artisan families in Thuong Tin — no machine tooling. The gentle asymmetries you may notice between pieces are part of what makes each one specific to the hand that made it.
🎁 Gifting
A fitting gift for someone starting therapy, leaving a stressful job, or simply asking for less noise in their life — as well as a quiet housewarming piece for a first apartment or home office.
A natural fit for a work desk, a bedside table, or a reading nook — anywhere you'd like a small, steady point of calm within eye line. Pairs well with light wood and neutral surfaces that don't compete for attention.
