Product Description
Some figures represent an idea; this one represents the follow-through. This hand-carved Samantabhadra Bodhisattva — the bodhisattva of practice and vows — is solid African Padauk, carved by family artisans in Thường Tín village, Hanoi.
🌿 Meaning & Symbolism: Who Is Samantabhadra?
Where Manjushri represents the wisdom to understand the teachings, Samantabhadra represents the discipline to actually live them — through daily conduct, patience, and ten great vows of practice described in the Avatamsaka Sutra. He's traditionally shown seated on, or accompanied by, a six-tusked white elephant, a symbol of strength applied gently, and of the steady, unglamorous work that turns understanding into action.
He is Manjushri's counterpart in the Flower Garland Triad, the two bodhisattvas flanking a central Shakyamuni Buddha — wisdom on one side, practice on the other, neither complete without the other.
For a home, he is the figure that says: knowing what's right is only half of it.
🌿 The Wood & The Craft
African Padauk is dense and dimensionally stable, holding carved detail — a seated robe, the subtle features of an elephant motif — without the warping softer woods develop over time. Left in its natural finish, the wood's warm red-orange tone deepens gradually with age and light exposure, a normal and expected part of owning solid hardwood.
Every statue is hand-chiseled from a single block by artisans continuing a carving lineage passed through families in Thường Tín village for generations. Small variations between pieces are the direct evidence of that handwork, not an inconsistency to smooth away.
🌿 Where to Place It
A study, a meditation corner, or alongside a Manjushri statue as a paired set — traditionally at or above eye level, facing the room.
🪵 Display Base
For the cleanest finished look, we recommend pairing this piece with a matching Ebony wood pedestal base — sold separately — which lifts the statue slightly and gives it a more considered, gallery-ready presence on any shelf or altar.

FAQs
FAQs
✦ Strength applied with patience and gentleness — the six tusks are traditionally linked to the six perfections of Buddhist practice: generosity, discipline, patience, effort, meditation, and wisdom.
❓ Is this hand-carved or resin-cast?
✦ Fully hand-carved from a single block of solid African Padauk — no resin, no CNC or machine assistance.
❓ Can this be paired with a Manjushri statue?
✦ Yes — the two are traditionally shown together as complementary figures, wisdom and practice, and look well displayed as a pair.
❓ How do I care for this statue?
✦ Dust weekly with a soft, dry cloth. A drop of natural wood oil every six months keeps the finish healthy. Avoid direct sun and liquid cleaners.
❓ Is this available in cypress instead of padauk?
✦ Yes, on request — message me before ordering to confirm current availability.

The two figurines are beautifully crafted. Some components, such as Samantabhadra's flower and Manjusri's sword, are separate, ensuring they won't break during transport. The stem of Samantabhadra's flower is made of copper, not wood. This allows for the desired angle, but at the same time, I find it slightly out of place with the rest of the figurine.
A very beautiful carving with a captivating presence. It is a pleasure to use this high-quality product. Figure to look at. Communication with Ms. Lily is very good. The item was packaged perfectly and securely. Thank you.
