This is Amitabha, the Buddha of Boundless Light, seated in Dhyana Mudra — the meditation gesture, hands resting palm-up in the lap, thumbs lightly touching. In Mahayana tradition, this posture represents complete stillness of mind, undisturbed by the noise of the outside world.
The swastika carved into the chest is an ancient symbol of compassion and gathered merit — not a modern one. Beneath him, the lotus throne is carved from the very same block of wood, never joined or added, which reflects a simple teaching: peace doesn't come from somewhere else. It rises, like the lotus, from what's already here.
