This Thai Buddha is carved by hand from a single block of solid African Padauk, with the skin left in a deep natural brown and the flowing robe finished in warm saffron orange. At 30 cm tall it is a true centrepiece for an altar, a meditation room or a living room console.

🌿 What Does This Buddha's Hand Position Mean?

The right hand shows Vitarka Mudra, the gesture of teaching and discussion. The circle made by the thumb and index finger stands for the Wheel of Dharma: a teaching with no beginning and no end, passed on through calm, clear words.

The left hand rests open in the lap, palm up, in the spirit of meditation. Together the two hands say: first find stillness, then share what you have understood.

The figure follows the Thai tradition of Buddha images, with a slender rounded ushnisha, finely carved snail-shell curls, long earlobes and a robe draped over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder bare. It sits in full lotus, the soles of both feet turned upward.

🪵 What Wood Is This Buddha Statue Carved From?

Carved from a single block of solid African Padauk, a dense, richly grained hardwood valued across Southeast Asia for its strength and warmth.

The face, chest, hands and feet keep the wood's natural deep brown. The robe is hand-coloured in saffron orange by the artisans, then sanded and polished back so the grain shows through every fold.

Shaped entirely by hand by family artisans in Thuong Tin, Hanoi. No CNC, no mass mold. Look at the hundreds of hair curls, the folds of the robe across the knees and the separate toes: each line is a single deliberate cut, so no two pieces are ever identical.

📏 Dimensions & Feng Shui Placement

· Height: 11.8 in (30 cm)
· Width: 9.8 in (25 cm)
· Depth: 5.1 in (13 cm)

A substantial statue, about the height of a standard sheet of paper.
